The first festival to kick start the season is the ‘Rattler Festival’ held on a cider farm near Newquay. The second is the now iconic ‘Great Estate’ bonanza spreading over three days with entertainment beyond just music. Next and not to be missed is ‘Tunes in the Dunes’, followed by the world-famous ‘Boardmasters Festival’ in August. Finally, to finish the festival season in pure Newquay style is ‘The Cider Festival’ in September.
Tunes in the Dunes 24th-27th June
This one is a particular favourite and unique to North Cornwall, as it all takes place literally on the beach in Perranporth. Imagine hearing your favourite singer live with a cold beer in your hand, sand between your toes and a stunning sunset. Top it with a backdrop of a beautiful beach, dramatic cliffs, and the rolling waves from the ocean. Ibiza, eat your heart out!
This festival lineup is looking incredible this year, spanning over three days, with the likes of Shaggy, The Kooks, Paul Weller & Ziggy Marley (the son of Bob Marley doing a tribute to his late great father’s music). There will also be a collection of various street foods and pop-up bars to suit all tastes and cater for all ages, so bring the kids too!
Silent Disco
If that is not enough for you, there is also a ‘Silent Disco’ every month. If you have never been to one, now is the perfect time to experience this crazy disco. Everyone wears earphones with two different channels of music played by two DJs. Enjoy the freedom to flick between each Dj at any time, depending on what you prefer to listen.
Prepare to hear classic anthems ranging from Dolly Parton to Queen to Whitney Huston. This event is guaranteed to make you dance and sing your heart out to the person opposite, without a care in the world as no one can hear you !!
These silent discos occur every month on the decking at Fistral Beach Bar in Newquay, against the stunning backdrop of the rolling waves and beautiful Fistral Beach, with a dazzling sunset.
The dates for these nights are:
- Saturday 18th June
- Saturday 20th July
- Saturday 17th September
- Saturday 29th October
Smarties Surf Lodge offers a great weekend price for any of these events and can help organise Taxis there and back if required. Perranporth is only a 15-20 minute drive away, and Fistral beach is only a quick 10-minute walk from the lodge. Just call for prices and availability.
